It’s True: This Y2K Bob Is Everyone’s Go-To Hairstyle Inspiration

It’s true that the bob will be in style through 2023. But not all bobs are made equally. There are many different bob styles, and there is one to suit everyone, from the larger, voluminous Italian bob to the sleek box bob. Every single celebrity, from Zendaya to Hailey Bieber, has jumped on the short hairstyle trend, and every hairstylist I speak with agrees that it is the most popular short hairstyle trend in salons, so it is safe to say that it won’t be going away any time soon.

One another bob haircut trend has suddenly appeared on the horizon, just when we thought we had seen them all. But with a Y2K twist this time. the graduated bob, please.

One another bob haircut trend has suddenly appeared on the horizon, just when we thought we had seen them all. But with a Y2K twist this time. the graduated bob, please. I’m not lying. This hairstyle wasn’t listed on my 2023 hair trends bingo card. The phrase “graduated bob” could conjure up images of Victoria Beckham’s angled bob from the 2000s or a look that says “I’d like to speak to the manager,” but I assure you that the bobs from 2023 are far classier and have a contemporary makeover.

The 2023 progressive bob is considerably more subdued, with the hair starting off much shorter in the back and getting longer as it moves toward the front of the head. The graduated bobs of this year are much gentler with a gradual inclination towards the back of the head, as opposed to last year’s iterations, which have a severe 45-degree angle. This bob trend works with all hair types and seems incredibly current right now, whether you have straight hair, curly hair, braids, or both. The statistics support that as well; this week, Google searches for “graduated bob” have increased by 200%.
