Notwithstanding a warrant for the Russian president’s arrest, China invites Putin to visit

Russia — Despite the fact that Vladimir Putin is the target of a global arrest order, Chinese President Xi Jinping invited him to visit China again on Tuesday.

Xi also extended an invitation to Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin to visit China, saying, “I encourage you to visit China as soon as feasible.”

Xi is in Moscow for a three-day state visit through Wednesday.

Putin and Maria Lvova-Belova, his commissioner for children’s rights, are wanted by the International Criminal Court in The Hague, Netherlands, on suspicion of sending Ukrainian children to Russia.

Invading Ukraine in February of last year was Russia. The ICC is not recognized by China, Russia, or the United States.
