According to the court documents, the 36-year-old mom, Basma, and her 19-year-old daughter, Hanan, were indicted on multiple charges, including: strangulation or suffocation, endangering children, tampering with evidence, abuse of a c0rpse and obstructing justice in the death of Basma’s newborn son.
Prosecutors said the responding officers reportedly found Basma’s newborn baby in the trunk of a car wrapped in a trash bag inside a bucket .
The 911 caller told the dispatcher that ‘their mother was not waking up and they don’t know what to do with her’.
First responders rushed the 36-year-old mom to the hospital and realized that she had just given birth. Officers then returned to the home in search of the baby. After searching the home, officers reportedly searched inside a vehicle parked in the backyard.
When officers found the newborn child, they attempted CPR and took the baby to a children’s hospital where he was pronounced dead. Per reports, Basma placed her newborn son in a trash bag and instructed her daughter to dispose of it. The 19-year-old then placed him in a bucket in the trunk.
According to local news outlet, a neighbor reportedly said that she saw a huge police response and first responders put the newborn baby on a stretcher. The woman, who was not identified, reportedly told WSYX: “They were doing compressions, you could tell by the way they were handling the situation that it was a very small person.” This incident remains under investigation.
