Homeless Dog Keeps Lost 10-Year-Old Girl Warm in Chilly Weather to Save Her Life

A 10-year-old girl named Vika from Sakhalin, Russia, found herself lost on her way home from school. Unable to remember how to get home, she wandered further away. Her family became frantic upon realizing she was missing and began searching for her. The police were also alerted to her disappearance.

Despite an extensive search, night fell, and Vika was still nowhere to be found. Worries mounted as temperatures dropped to -11 degrees Celsius (about 12 degrees Fahrenheit) and a blizzard covered the area with two feet of snow. The possibility of Vika freezing to death was a frightening reality.

Eighteen hours later, Vika was discovered hugging a stray  dog for warmth. She had found the dog sleeping on a discarded mattress and approached it. The dog welcomed her, and together they took shelter under a balcony. Olesya Voznyuk, an official with the Investigative Committee, described the scene.

Upon being found, Vika was taken to the hospital, where she was diagnosed with mild frostbite. Her parents revealed that Vika has always had a special connection with animals, which explained her ability to befriend the stray dog. Voznyuk shared that Vika often played with local  dogs and fed them after school.
