Maria panics when she sees her neighbor, George, lying in a muddy puddle and feels compelled to save him. However, her concern turns to suspicion as she notices George’s erratic behavior, including digging in his garden and keeping strange hours. After observing him staring into the puddle and then crawling into it, Maria races to help, only to see George disappear beneath the surface.
Despite her efforts to find him in the murky water, she struggles to locate him and becomes increasingly frantic, realizing that George must be running out of air, prompting her to jump into the puddle to try to save him.
Neighbors gather to assist Maria, who appears distressed while standing in a hole filled with water and mud. As they work together to remove the debris, they begin to uncover a hard surface at the bottom, which Maria is convinced holds some significance. With the water level dropping, it becomes evident that there is a hatch covered by the mud, leading to the shocking discovery that George, who had been acting peculiarly, had hidden a large stash of stolen money beneath it. Realizing the gravity of the situation, they promptly call the police, leading to George’s arrest.
