At the G20 Foreign Ministers’ meeting in New Delhi on Thursday, Chinese Foreign Minister Qin Gang called for initiatives to support the healthy growth of globalization and boost multilateralism.
“We need to implement the outcomes of the Bali Summit and make further progress,” Qin said.
To better deliver the outcomes of the Bali Summit, Qin suggested that countries should enhance macroeconomic policy coordination, safeguard food and energy security.
“China has suspended more debt service payments than any other G20 member and participated in the debt treatment under the Common Framework,” he said.Qin urged the biggest economies in the world to accept responsibility for cooperating for prosperity and global development while delivering a speech at the gathering on strengthening multilateralism and advancing global development.
According to Qin, the G20 must strengthen collaboration and give its fair share to advancing global prosperity in the face of an unstable international environment and growing global difficulties.G20 members must adhere to the fundamental rules governing international relations based on the objectives and tenets of the UN Charter, uphold the international system with the United Nations at its center, uphold the international order based on international law, and engage in true multilateralism.
Along with promoting the healthy development of globalization, opposing unilateralism, protectionism, and decoupling, countries should also uphold the principles of cooperation, equal dialogue, and consultation, avoid power politics, and ensure the stability and efficient operation of international supply chains.
Adding that the China-proposed Global Development Initiative (GDI) has provided a new alternative for accelerating the implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Goals, he urged for actions to make global development “more inclusive, resilient, and beneficial for all.”
