Ellis County is mourning the loss of Detention Officer Isiah Bias, who tragically lost his life following an alleged attack by an inmate on Monday afternoon. The accused, 45-year-old Arron Thompson, now faces charges of Capital Murder in connection with the incident.
According to investigators, Officer Bias succumbed to injuries sustained in a physical altercation that occurred in a holding cell. The exact circumstances leading to the attack are still under investigation.
Ellis County Sheriff Brad Norman described Bias as an “outstanding person” and dedicated public servant. “He joined our department at the age of 14 as part of a mentorship program and grew into an exemplary officer over the years,” said Norman.
Bias’s career with the sheriff’s office spanned over a decade. He was recognized for his dedication and leadership, culminating in his promotion to Corporal in Detention Services in 2022.
“His loss leaves a profound void in our department and our community,” Norman added.
The Sheriff’s Office has pledged to conduct a thorough investigation while offering support to Bias’s family and colleagues during this difficult time. A memorial service will be announced in the coming days.
This tragic event underscores the risks faced by detention officers daily, and local leaders have called for a renewed focus on safety measures within correctional facilities.
Bias is remembered not only for his service but also for his warm demeanor and commitment to justice. His colleagues and loved ones describe him as a role model and a friend to many.
