A dog tick (left) and a deer tick (right) flank a Lone Star tick (center). Red meat allergy is thought to be mostly caused by the Lone Star tick, but other ticks cannot be completely ruled out.

Due to people spending more time outside during this time of year, there is an increase in emergency room visits for tick bites.
