Top Ukrainian Military Psychiatrist Arrested for Amassing Over $1 Million During War

In a shocking development, the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has detained the chief psychiatrist of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, who allegedly amassed over $1 million during the ongoing war.

The suspect, who also serves as the deputy head of the Central Military Qualification Commission, was responsible for assessing the serviceability of military personnel—a position of immense influence during wartime.

Lavish Wealth Amidst War

Authorities discovered a vast network of assets linked to the psychiatrist, with multiple luxury properties and high-end vehicles registered under the names of his relatives.

During the search of his residence, investigators uncovered:
$152,000 in cash
€34,000 in euros
Documents linking him to substantial real estate holdings

Abusing Power for Personal Gain?

While exact details of the corruption scheme remain under investigation, suspicions arise over whether military service exemptions or medical classifications were being manipulated in exchange for money. Given his critical role in evaluating soldiers’ fitness for service, any abuse of power could have had serious consequences for Ukraine’s armed forces.

The suspect has officially been served a notice of suspicion and could face up to 10 years in prison if convicted.

A Symbolic Crackdown on Corruption

This arrest marks yet another high-profile corruption case as Ukraine continues its anti-corruption efforts, especially within the military sector. With the country locked in a war for survival, such betrayals of trust are viewed as particularly egregious.

As investigations continue, the question remains: How deep does the corruption run within Ukraine’s military medical system?
